So, you may think that the Teen Health Crew only teaches cool programs, but we do so much more! In addition to teaching and serving as role models, our teens volunteer at fun community events that promote health and safety.
Kidsfest Every spring the teens help with an event called Kidsfest. Our teens represent the Children’s Health Education Center and the Teen Health Crew. Teens assist with bike helmet fitting, traffic control, and fake tattooing!
Winners Wear Helmets In May our Injury Prevention team holds a cool outdoor event to promote bicycle safety. Many young students are excited about riding bicycles and we want to make sure they use a helmet! Teens assist with helmet fitting, crowd control, and the bike rodeo! Fun + Sun + Safety = Awesome
Delta Dental Day To kick off Dental Health Month in February, Teen Health Crew-Fox Valley spends a busy Sunday at the Building for Kids (a local children’s museum) in Appleton. They seat kids in our dental chair and show them dental instruments – even polish their finger! They help with tooth brushing techniques, read stories and get kids excited about taking care of their mouth.
Community Resource Fair Every spring, community agencies get together to showcase their services for young families. Teen Health Crew-Fox Valley members can be seen surrounded by preschoolers at the duck pond game, showing off lifejackets at the water safety display and even lending a hand with wandering toddlers.
Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin-Fox Valley Hospital Tours First graders in the Fox Valley have the opportunity to tour the hospital and get a feel for what a hospital stay might be like. Teen Health Crew members help lead the tours, raising and lowering beds, showing off the playroom and easing the fears of younger students. This field trip is available for a week in April.
