Long Term Goal: It is recommended that children eat 3 meals every day.

Why eating three meals a day is important:
  • It helps the body to use energy most efficiently.
  • It limits feeling “extra hungry” and overeating at the next meal.
  • It allows us to take a break from a busy day.Meal Consistency
Health risk if three meals are not eaten every day:
  • Weight gain; skipping meals or waiting too long between meals causes the body to store extra energy as fat.
  • Eating infrequently can cause bad moods and poor focus.
Benefits of consistent meals:
  • Regular meals will help you maintain or lose weight.
  • The body uses energy from food for activity and does not store it as fat.
  • Eating breakfast will provide your body energy to stay focused at school or work.
  • Feeling better.
What you can do:
  • If you eat once a day, start by adding one additional meal.
  • If you eat twice a day, start by adding an additional small meal.
  • If you do not like “breakfast foods”, try eating other foods for breakfast. You are not limited to traditional breakfast options. For example: yogurt, toast/bagel, cereal, sandwich, leftovers, cheese.
  • Try a new lunch idea; sandwich, lunchmeat rolled up in a tortilla, fruits or vegetables, yogurt, leftovers, cheese.
  • Eat three meals a day about 4-5 hours apart.
