Let's face it, prescription drugs are easy to access - they are right there in the medicine cabinet in your bathroom. Many teens feel that prescription drugs are not as dangerous as street drugs and more socially acceptable.

Do you know the signs of drug abuse?
•    Change in behavior.
•    Lying or hiding information.
•    Change in appetite.
•    Change in friends.

A fistful of drugs
An alarming trend associated with prescription drug abuse is a "pharm party," or "pharming." Here kids create a recipe or trail mix of drugs. Each kid brings a handful or baggie of drugs that are thrown into a bowl and mixed together. Each kid then takes a handful of the drugs. Unfortunately, this can result in a deadly situation, as different drugs react differently in the body.

Getting your child help

If you suspect your child is involved with any drug that is not prescribed by their own pediatrician, seek help. Call your child's pediatrician.
