 Children's Hospital of Wisconsin is committed to keeping kids healthy and safe. And research shows that kids learn better when they are healthy and feel safe. That's why we created Act Now! (formerly known as BullyFree Basics), a BlueKids.org e-learning program designed for students in grades 4 and 5. This fun and interactive, game-based program helps kids keep their classrooms and school safe by creating a bully-free environment.
Developed in collaboration with the Wisconsin Department of Instruction, Act Now! takes a novel approach to tackling one of our schools' most troubling issues. The engaging program doesn't just increase awareness about bullying; it provides students with the skills they need to prevent and stop bullying as they learn about the three elements of ACT: Action, Care and Tell. Additionally, students learn the use of assertive comebacks and empathetic attitudes that help foster a climate of respect and compassion. Pre- and post-tests assess what students have learned in the program.
Using interactive video, role-playing and a variety of other activities, Act Now! teaches students:
- How to recognize bullying behaviors
- What to do when bullying takes place
- How to deal with bullying situations
Act Now! for 4th and 5th grades is part of a five-year bullying-prevention curriculum continuum, setting the foundation and preparing students for Act Now! for 6th, 7th and 8th grades. The innovative e-learning modules are supported with complementary classroom sessions taught by the teacher, counselor or trained professional. This blended approach allows you to customize the program to best fit your school/classroom's needs. Teachers are able to track their students' progress through the LMS, and pre- and post-tests assess what students have learned in the program. For optimal program success, an online staff development training program is includes for school and community that provides a step-by-step process for creating a bully-free school.
 Act Now! includes a teacher's guide for each grade level that prepares teachers to use the program in their classrooms. The guide provides:
- Details of all activities and lessons, including transcripts
- Learning objectives aligned with national standards and core concepts
- Classroom implementation strategies
- Parent letter and take-home activities
- Additional resources
